Literature: Cautionary Awakening

Awaking to pounding of a dull beat,
Hammer-pounded chest shivered to fade
Death descended to take me to its seat
As Life gave Death me in its trade

As spirit faded away, myriad thoughts arose enraged
Places and things and everything in between—not yet seen
Forevermore but a dream, a dream evermore caged
Barely two decades on the path of life--must I be thus forsaken?

Despair broiled within like a torrential wave
Can anyone hear me cry and shout?
Will I end like so and fall in my grave?
To bear witness to life-candle snuffed out?

As my hollers awoke me from my slumber
Awakened I can only shudder and wonder
Is this dream naught but the One’s caution?
Revealed to jolt me to change my action?
